Just be aware, your 24-month clock starts ticking after the first test of either rating. If you pass all Airframe tests, you don’t yet get a certificate until you also pass all Powerplant tests (if you applied for both on one application). The FAA will issue your mechanic certificate only when you’ve met all the requirements for whichever ratings were on the form. If you realize you only want to pursue one for now, it might be cleaner to apply for one (line through the other on the form). But it’s common to do one then the other – just keep track of your timeline.
